Austrian artist Wolfgang Herbst works with digital media across experimental film, photography, sound, and installation. His work explores visual perception across different technical imaging systems and examines how images, spaces, and atmospheres are shaped through mediated processes.
After completing a technical education, he studied theatre studies and media studies before working for many years as a graphic designer for publishing houses and advertising agencies. His engagement with visual communication, design, and digital production processes continues to form an important background to his artistic practice.
Later in his professional career, his focus increasingly shifted toward independent artistic work. In this context, he developed an open and cross-media approach that combines experimental film, photography, sound, and installation.
Central to his work are processes of transformation, superimposition, and perceptual shifts. Recurring motifs include surfaces, atmospheric conditions, and transitions between visibility and dissolution.
His works have been presented in experimental film and exhibition contexts across Europe, including international short film and poetry film festivals.
