The idea for this work came up when Donald Trump (the 45th president of the United States) announced that he wanted to build a fence between the US and Mexico. Here in Europe we are having a very similar discussion as a result of a refugee crisis. In each case, the supposed goal is of course an increase in security. But who’s the real beneficiary?

Haven’t we heard in the past that freedom is a reason to fight wars? The economy must be allowed to operate at a global scale without limits, but average people have to live within well-defined boundaries? Isn’t our need for security increasingly becoming a cage? Aren’t we subject to almost total surveillance? Who is threatening us and for what reasons?
